AGE: 16
CANON: Shokugeki no Soma
CANON POINT: Chapter 180
CANON INFORMATION: Wiki!

PERSONALITY:

Born into a family famous for their participation in the world of culinary arts, it is of no surprise that Erina Nakiri was born to be a legacy. Comically enough Erina was picky even on her breast milk, commenting that her mother 'has no flavor'. This is where we learn about Erina's taste buds are way above average when compared that of another person. Because of this she earned the title of "God's Tongue", a title that she takes pride in knowing that her presence brings a good reputation towards the Nakiri family. It should also be noted that in canon Erina is the youngest to enter the Elite Ten Council, which is a group formed of the top ten students of Tootsuki Culinary Academy and she holds many responsibilities. An example of just how much power she has is proven within the first chapter, in which she makes the ultimate decision on whether or not a group that includes the main character may enter the academy. Overall compared to other teenagers Erina has a lot of pressure on her shoulders being the next heir of an extremely important company, but she continues to hold her head up and focus on continuing forward for both herself and her family. The Nakiri are famous for their culinary abilities and research within the world, and she would only be an embarrassment if she did not live up to their expectations.

With that in mind it should not come to a surprise that Erina has a queen-like complex that serves as a double-edged blade in certain situations.

Erina is a young woman who is highly confident in her abilities and strives to enhance her knowledge and overall experience, continuing to study hard in order to go above not only in the academy but against chefs world wide. If she is not tending to her responsibilities within the Council she is more than likely occupying one of her many kitchens in order to experiment on new dishes. She finds satisfaction in winning, which exposes her competitive nature, but there are plenty of times where Erina simply challenged other chefs to Shokugeki challenges for her own gain. An example of this is the first Shokugeki that we witness her compete in within canon, in which she simply wished to defeat the other chef so she may tear down the building that he was using for her own personal use. Evidently Erina is selfish and isn't against of using her strengths as an advantage in order to obtain what she wants. In fact, she can appear ridiculously cruel at times like these, where she even comments saying that all those people in her way were "hopeless garbage" and that she wouldn't waste her time with those who are not strong enough to be at her level. There are instances where Erina does prove that she wears the manners the match her dresses, especially to older class men and generally people who show her respect, however that doesn't mean that they're suddenly exempt from the occasional sting in her words.

She's personally unfamiliar to failure and it only adds to her arrogance, which is shown in the Stagiaire Arc where she completely runs the kitchen Excellent that is owned by a man named Kasayama. When he tells her and Megumi Tadokoro to wash the dishes she quickly rejects it and states that those sort of activities were not meant for people with her talent, which ultimately left Megumi to do them by herself while Erina tended to her own responsibilities. (However it ended up being for the better considering Megumi realized something beneficial for the restaurant and Erina actually listened.) When a critic says that Erina's dish was a complete improvement of what Kasayama has served she's not the least bit surprised, again fueling her confidence.

Since she is so quick to insult and critic others rather than compliment them, Erina's way of actually accepting someones abilities has her fall into the typical "tsundere" stereotype. This is especially shown whenever she witnesses or tastes a dish made by the main character, Souma Yukihira, who she initially didn't view as an obstacle until later into the series. In fact she predicted that he would not make it far into the school year and either be expelled or quit due to Tootsuki's harsh expectations, but every time she was left completely baffled by Souma's cooking and his stubborn personality. Erina has grown to recognize him as both a chef and rival in recent chapters, but at this point in time she'll never openly admit that.

Now Erina's personality stems off further than just growing up in a rich environment and talented, in fact there is a strong possibility that she wouldn't have turned so sour if it wasn't for the events from her earlier years in life. Her father, Azami Nakiri, is the only person who can make the strong-willed Erina collapse into a terrified child. When he first makes his appearance she can no longer speak and breaks into a sweat, and we're later revealed that Azami's methods of training Erina's "God's Tongue" were both emotionally and physically abusive. She was locked away from the rest of the world and spent her days test tasting food to the point that that was all she knew. He trained her to be incredibly cruel to the world around her, to only accept the dishes of chefs who would bring a positive impact to the culinary industry and that anything that wasn't of high-quality was to be considered fodder. It should come to no surprise that during this time Erina couldn't find any joy in cooking at all. And when her father became the director of Tootsuki she could only bow her head and agree to all the decisions he made for her, incapable of defying him and thus having her life be placed into the palm of his hands once again.

While her father's absence certainly was a positive in her life his impact has undoubtedly stunted her growth and still makes appearances in present day (such as when she commented on people being hopeless garbage), so much so that her grandfather, Senzaemon Nakiri, actively searched out for individuals who could possibly pull her out from the damage her father caused. Fortunately in recent chapters Erina has since grown and became much more accepting to help from others, lending her own knowledge and acknowledging the residents of the Polar Star Dorm as talented individuals whose cooking may not be normal when compared to common practices but were their ways of cooking. However she doesn't hold their hand throughout their journey, and originally she was stubborn against taste testing their food but gave in due to their persistence. When the school starts targeting the students rebelling the school's new order with intentions on getting them expelled, finding a sense of joy and pride seeing them excel despite the obstacles set before them. Just imagine a mother hen with all her chicks, that's basically their relationship.

Due to her sheltered upbringing and number of responsibilities it's evident that Erina hasn't lived a normal life. In fact she questions what it's like to be normal, unfamiliar with everyday activities that girls her age distract themselves with. And hilariously enough the most she knows about relationships come from shoujo manga. She and her cousin Alice are opposites--which explains their constant bickering--with the latter having much more experience with freedom and social events that aren't completely professional. She drags Erina to places she's never been to, for example a public pool, and openly teases how naive and oblivious Erina is in areas outside of cooking. Erina also appears to be quite envious of Alice when she sees her crying and throwing a fit, which evidently shows us that Erina is a person who suppresses her emotions in order to present herself as the cold heir the rest of the world expects her to be.

To complete her tsundere steoreotype there is a softer side of Erina that she doesn't express openly to others. If there's a single person in this world that she admires it's Joichirou Yukihira, who is ironically enough the father of Souma. When she was still adjusting to life without her father Joichirou was a breath of fresh air, a person who brought her back into the joys of cooking, and since the tender age of ten she has kept a promise she has made with him to cook him a meal close to her heart. Even though she has not seen his face since, nor does she keep in contact with him, Erina even keeps a table open at her booth during the Moon Banquet Festival for him in the off chance that he would appear. His existence brought back her love for cooking and it's obvious that she holds a high level of respect towards him, often times being found speaking very fondly of him.

With friends she remains harsh and critical, but at the end of the day Erina is extremely transparent. Behind her words is the genuine care for her friends, a desire to see them prosper, and ultimately an attempt to lower her walls and allow people in.

Erina is a character who still has more room for growth considering her usual antics of keeping her true emotions under lock and key, getting into petty arguments, as well as her confident and stubborn personality remain the same. These are traits that will probably never leave her, but she's certainly stepping out of the small world of comfort she created herself and has begun to accept the people around her who she originally thought were below her.

ABILITIES:

The only ability that Erina has that would be classified as unusual is her tongue. Known as the "God's Tongue", her tongue is extremely sensitive and thus capable of analyzing any type of food (the seasoning, spices, etc. ) with perfect accuracy. She can easily explain the process someone took when preparing their dishes without having watched them, how long it has been overcooked, the ingredients they used, etc.. It's also stated in canon that she can even identify eight different types of salts blindfolded. Other than that she is a normal human being.

INVENTORY:

- The clothes on her back.
- A picture of herself and Joichirou Yukihira.
- Her school bag which contains textbooks, pencils, and paper.
- A set of her cooking attire.

MEMORY ALTERATION:

After being dragged into what she believes will be a briefing of the next part of the Promotion Exams Erina will remember her father informing her about 'needing more research'. The next moment he'll be handing her a slip of paper with a signature of his consent, and unfortunately she thought this wouldn't happen as soon as it did. She's pretty pissed about it.

SAMPLE:

"Who did it?"

Erina Nakiri is no where near delicate, and she hardly meets the assumption. Perhaps if her gaze wasn't so sharp and she always take on the appearance that she was stabbing daggers into the device she received upon arrival she would be mistaken for something else. Something smaller, something less intimidating and who wouldn't make a scene over something as small as burnt fish.

Then again they were in no position to go wasting food. Mistakes like these wouldn't make the loss of supplies magically reappear and she sees the reality in that. Living underwater was an adjustment she was still in the process of getting used to, but even under different circumstances her reaction would result to something similar to the situation now: arms crossed across her chest, eyes coldly staring at the pan and its blackened state.

Whoever is behind this crime would either feel a sense of pride of humility when she zooms in on what she assumes was supposed to be a quick meal.

"If you're going to ruin something at least have the decency to clean up your mess." She speaks in a flat tone, but there's authority in her voice that causes her words to sound more as a demand than a request. "Also, if you're unable to cook or easily get distracted then you should stay out of the kitchen. I'm saying this for the safety of others and yourself, I understand we're underwater but starting a fire isn't impossible while within the base. That's simple logic."

There's a sudden pause, and from another's perspective it may seem that she's working on turning the device off by the sound of fumbling. However it's simply Erina's hesitation, biting down on her cheek as she bounces back and forth between the two decisions she made herself.

After a second longer than necessary, which she belatedly notices, her voice can be heard again as the video is focused on a hand busily retrieving another pan, "However, to the person that managed to do this, the next time you wish to try cooking make sure you're under some type of supervision.. Actually, it may be better for everyone to know how to prepare something simple. If you are ever in need of assistance and we happen to cross paths then feel free to ask, but be prepared for me to decline if I'm too busy."

She won't be.

"So.. yes," another pause, this time it's because she believes someone is approaching and now has a death grip on the device in her hands, "bye."

And the feed ends abruptly, ignoring how the proposal she made over the network managed to make herself embarrassed--at the least the end of it.
